Ho conosciuto il multitalented Dusan Kochol grazie a Richard Gerst, che lo aveva fotografato in esclusiva per lepilloledistefano (e trovate anche l’intervista che gli feci, oltre altre alle foto di Richard qui). Definire Dusan è davvero difficile, parole come artista, fotografo, innamorato della scrittura, è tutto riduttivo, perché lui è questo e molto di più. Dopo aver frequentato corsi di fotografia alla Central Saint Martin’s e al London College of Fashion, aver esposto i suoi lavori in giro per l’Europa, aver ottenuto una specializzazione presso l’Istituto di fotografia creativa della Silesian University della Repubblica Ceca, ora sta conseguendo un dottorato di ricerca. E proprio in occasione di questa importante novità ci siamo risentiti. Oltre a concedermi in esclusiva per lepilloledistefano le foto che vedete qui, in cui lui è protagonista, davanti all’obiettivo di Jakub Gulyas, mi ha raccontato un po’ di novità. / I met the multitalented Dusan Kochol thanks to Richard Gerst, who had photographed him exclusively for lepilloledistefano (and you can find the interview that I did with him, in addition to the photos of Richard here). Dusan is really hard to define, words such as artist, photographer, writing’s addicted, are all an understatement, because he is all of that and much more. After attending photography courses at Central Saint Martin’s and the London College of Fashion, having exhibited his work around Europe, having obtained a specialization at the Institute of Creative Photography of the Silesian University in the Czech Republic, he’s earning now a PhD there. And on the occasion of these important news I talk again with him. Dusan, raccontami di cosa ti sei occupato in questi mesi in cui non ci siamo sentiti. / Dusan, tell me what you’ve been busy doing in the recent months in which we did not talk.
Recentemente ho festeggiato il mio 30° compleanno con la pubblicazione del mio libro intitolato “W.Ego Journals”, che è anche il mio progetto di dottorato. Lo descriverei come: un diario di osservazioni visive del mio alter ego. Esperienze e sensazioni di fiction intima, fuse con la realtà dell’autore per mezzo di un ritratto autoanalitico. Ma non c’è solo questo, mi parlavi di un festival, l’ultima volta che abbiamo chiacchierato insieme. Giusto? / But that’s not all, we spoke about a festival the last time we chatted together. Right?
Sì. Ho fondato nel 2010 una rassegna fotografica a Bratislava e continuo a dirigerla e curarla una volta all’anno. Si tratta di una piattaforma per giovani talenti emergenti nel mondo della fotografia, provenienti soprattutto dall’Est europeo. Questa quarta edizione, che si tiene nella storica costruzione del Pisztory Palace, prevede 18 esibizioni. Potete saperne di più andando sul sito http://www.offfestival.sk/. In occasione del festival ho anche pubblicato un libro che comprende le opere più caratteristiche presentate, quelle che si sono distinte, la pubblicazione è quindi una sorta di retrospettiva degli anni precedenti. / I founded a photographic festival in Bratislava in 2010 and I continue to direct and curate it on a yearly bases. The 4th year of the festival contains 18 exhibitions and is running until the 29th of November in Pisztory palace. It is a platform for young break through talents in the media of photography mostly from Eastern Europe. You can find out more on http://www.offfestival.sk/. Progetti per il futuro? / Projects for the future?
Finirò il mio dottorato in fotografia nella prima metà del prossimo anno e nel mese di gennaio inizierò anche a girare un film. Ho fatto un paio di cortometraggi, ma questa volta sarà qualcosa di più, e sono estremamente entusiasta perché questo è quello che ho sempre voluto fare. / I’m finishing my PhD in Photography in the first half of the next year and also in january I’m starting to shoot a film. I’ve done a couple of short films before but this time it will be something longer. I’m extremely excited about it because this is what I always wanted to do.
