This project has an idea nestled inside, that once you glance at it you utter “Brilliant!”, and then you’ll brood “why didn’t I think about it?”. The answer is easy: because he has already thought about it! He is Lorenzo Covello and his intuition of simple brilliance is called Lit.
Don’t worry, bumping into the self-questioning phase thanks to Bruno Munari’s words “when someone says: I can do this too, it means that he can redo it, otherwise he would have done it before” is just a great clue that you have caught the right essence of Lit shirts: the value of simplicity held into the quite invisible detail, but that once it has been discovered it turns to be fundamental.
Lit actually is simple even in its history: it starts from Lorenzo’s enthusiast curiosity, from the discovery of a broken and forgotten sewing machine in the basement, from the encounter with a little old man that seems like a cartoon so immersed into his machines needing to be repaired but that makes Lorenzo’s one back to work and devotes himself also to teach him how to sew his ideas for real. And from Lorenzo’s desire to shape those ideas telling something about what seems to have nothing left to say: the t-shirt. How? By a stripe of fabric to sew as the wise old man taught.
