Richard ha continuato a lavorare con lo stilista e mi ha mostrato di recente un video, forte e provocatorio, girato proprio per meglio raccontare la collezione di Gobel. “Poena luxuria” nasce come un fashion video, legato all’ispirazione dietro agli abiti, ma con una sua connotazione ben precisa, e ho il piacere di mostrarvelo in anteprima assoluta su lepilloledistefano. Enjoy! / If you follow the blog regularly you must know well by now Richard Gerst, thanks also to the collaborations that we do together, such as the new series of shoots “Sonatas”, you may have seen in the past the pictures that Richard had made at Marlon Gobel’s fashion show in New York, which I published here. Richard has continued to work with the designer and he recently showed me a video, strong and challenging, shot to better tell and represent the collection of Gobel. So “Poena Luxuria” was born as a fashion video, linked to the inspiration behind the clothes, but with a very precise connotation, and I am pleased to show it to you in this exclusive premiere. Questa è una dichiarazione da Marlon Gobel in merito alla collezione: “Questa utopica, o meglio distopica, collezione racconta da un punto di vista di stile delle conseguenze della inaugurazione di un governo “Dark Green”, che ha introdotto “la repressione del lusso”, secondo convinzioni radicali su come il mondo dovrebbe essere. “The Punishment of Luxury” è, in realtà, un racconto scritto da Michael Carson, a cui la collezione quindi si ispira. / This is a statement from Marlon Gobel regarding the collection: This utopian, or rather dystopian collection deals with the consequences of the inauguration of a “Dark Green” government which has introduced “the Punishment of Luxury” according to their radical beliefs about what the world should look like. “The Punishment of Luxury” is a short story written by Michael Carson.
E questo è ciò che Richard ha da raccontare su questa esperienza: “Il mio lavoro tende a giocare con l’equilibrio del potere e del desiderio. Quando ho visto la collezione a/i 2013 di Marlon Gobel sulla passerella, l’esperienza è stata particolarmente forte, come una metamorfosi, e mi è venuta l’idea e l’ispirazione per girare questo video. Nel film un uomo viene scoperto mentre trascorre tempo libero non autorizzato, indossando un abito lussuoso, sulla sfondo il panorama della città decadente in cui vive. In questo mondo – controllata da un governo dittatoriale-tali lussi personali sono punibili con l’arresto e anche l’esecuzione. All’inizio traspare una situazione che potrebbe sembrare di difficoltà, ma poi, un momento di un ancora più grande di lusso prende forma, un lusso dimenticato molto tempo fa: la Passione, capacità di provare sentimenti e sensazioni. L’uomo deve fare ora una scelta: ritornare di nuovo nel suo mondo restrittivo o riconoscere il ribelle che è diventato e marciare, indossando abiti lussuosi, per la sua strada. Il film è interpretato da Bart Grzybowski e Wilhelmina Hardisty, dell’agenzia di New York Ford Model Management.” / And this is what Richard has to tell about this experience: “My work tends to play with the balance of power and desire. When I watched Marlon Gobel’s f/w 2013 collection on the runway, the experience was transformative, and I was inspired to shoot this film. In the film, a man is discovered spending unauthorized leisure time wearing a luxurious suit, surveying a city in decay. In this world – controlled by a dictatorial government- such personal luxuries are punishable by arrest and even execution. A situation transpires where he seems in trouble, but then, a moment of an even greater luxury develops, one forgotten long ago: Feeling and Passion. The man must make a choice: retreat back into the restrictive world, or acknowledge the rebel he has become and march on. . . wearing luxury, his way. The film stars Bart Grzybowski & Wilhelmina Hardisty, Ford Model Management, New York”
