The photographer Shai Borochov, and if you follow the blog you know him well, returns to lepilloledistefano to show us, thanks to his pictures, the talent of new names in Israeli design and, by the way, just a few days after fashion week in Tel Aviv. This time it’s the turn of Eliran Nargassi, an amazing male fashion designer who I was already following on Instagram and that I find very interesting.
Shai tells us these words about the editorial he shot: “Eliran is a very successful designer who lives and works in Ramat Gan. We decided to photograph the model in the house of the designer, which is also his creative space, a very exciting and full of life place. Our model Yuval perfectly represents the beauty of the man envisioned by the designer and has played to perfection the style of Eliran’s clothes.”
The brand “Eliran Nargassi” was created in 2013 in purpose of taking part in the revival of men’s fashion in Israel and to provide an innovative fashion with a personal statement which is mostly reflected in the small details of the garments. The collection that we see in these pics was inspired by “Ken, Lydia and Tyler”, the series of photographs in black and white by Robert Mapplethorpe, a study on the body and nudity, as a reflection on gender, race and sexual orientation.
The collection has been designed in keeping with the spirit of Mapplethorpe’s photographs, with attention to the contradictory elements, such as black and white, the soft and the hard, the role of men and women. The color pink in this collection connects to the feeling of those jobs, the Eighties and the theme of the exploration of genres.
The collection consists of 18 pieces including a variety of tops and jackets almost tailored, button-down shirts and tailored pants. Each of these items is linked to the inspiration and the aesthetics of the designer.
And on the occasion of this editorial I reached the designer, with the help of Shai, with some questions to deepen its aesthetic, but especially to discover in which direction will move the brand.
What is an elegant man in your opinion?
I think that it depends on culture and location, I believe that the Israeli man cant be defined as an elegant man. Where I come from, men dress mainly to be comfortable without a calculated intention or meaning, though there is a growing sense of fashion among men in Israel. I guess it connected to a similar change that occurs in the rest of the world.
What are your planned projects for the future?
Seek new and innovative ways in design through collaborations with various designers, but not only fashion designers. Perhaps a graduate degree in design. And ofcourse develop my brand in Israel and globally.
