Qual è il fil rouge che annoda con stile un pirata, un dandy e una rockstar?
Nessun intento di trarre in inganno con improvvisi indovinelli, don’t worry: piuttosto, è un esercizio di fantasia piacevolmente utile per varcare l’ingresso del mondo creativo di Vito Michele Nitti, e vederlo prendere forma e sostanza nella sua collezione che ha sfilato sulla passerella dell’evento IED Fashion Graduates Show.
Ormai si è quasi avvezzi alla passione coinvolgente che contraddistingue i giovani talenti della moda: l’ingegno brillante e la curiosità mai sazia li guida alla ricerca di storie inaspettate da raccontare attraverso gli abiti; la meraviglia è invece la sorpresa che accoglie noi quando abbiamo l’opportunità di scoprire quel che i loro racconti hanno da rivelare.
E di materia con cui meravigliarci Vito Michele Nitti ne ha assai: ”quello che io adoro del mio lavoro è poter raccontare storie, mi piace che le mie collezioni possano essere viste in milioni di modi diversi, che la mia storia possa essere nascosta e solo chi è davvero interessato a conoscerla possa poterla approfondire. Adoro depistare la mente umana!”.
Parole che siete invitati a immaginare pronunciate con il calore di un ragazzo di origine barese che prima di giungere a Milano ha praticato la sartoria classica, l’ha messa nel bagaglio personale assieme alle lezioni di bellezza ed eleganza ricevuta dalle donne della famiglia, e ne ha fatto la base da nutrire con la fame vibrante di ricerca di tutto quel che la moda abbraccia: la storia, l’arte, la letteratura e, primo fra tutti, sé stesso.
La collezione DisDUSTer lo conferma appieno: “l’uomo che vado a raccontare sono io, parto da uno dei miei autori preferiti che è Oscar Wilde, scoprendo soprattutto un lato di lui che mai nessuno fa vedere”, ovvero il lato nascosto negli scritti rabbiosi del De Profundis, quella stessa rabbia dovuta all’incomprensione esterna verso un’intimità del tutto personale che ancora oggi ci inghiotte. Il dandy della collezione di Vito non è dunque il bacchettone dall’eleganza tanto studiata da sembrare arrogante, bensì il decadente che scivola nella sciatteria, ma che a sua volta è perfezione sartoriale nascosta nella confortevolezza: il pantalone baggy classico eppure comodissimo, l’oversize di un cappotto che in realtà cade a pennello, la trasparenza del dolcevita in garza di seta con l’abbottonatura sul retro rubata al guardaroba femminile.
Ecco il depistaggio, il dandy che ama a tal punto i piaceri da viverli all’estremo come una rockstar di oggi, o un pirata di ieri, che hanno la stessa sostanza di outsider dall’apparenza studiatissima.
Ma non basta, la passione di Vito fa un salto di una manciata di secoli, arriva ad un manuale cinquecentesco, scopre i codici di comportamento maschili e li racconta in dettagli estrosi allora come ora: avreste mai immaginato che quel quadratino di astrakan intarsiato nel gilet patchwork è il bollino di chi aveva una sessualità additata dai più?
Una collezione che Vito ha visto sfilare anche a Londra, all’international catwalk durante la Graduate Fashion Week: la stessa città di Oscar Wilde, come a chiudere un cerchio, per aprirne uno nuovo che gli auguriamo sarà un passo in avanti verso il successo.

What’s the fil rouge knotting together with style a pirate, a dandy and a rock star? Well, no intent of misleading by a riddle, don’t worry: yet, it’s a pleasant and useful exercise of fantasy to enter the creative world of Vito Michele Nitti, and seeing it taking form and essence into the collection that walked the runway of the IED fashion Graduates Show event.
By now we’re almost accustomed to the involving passion characterizing the young fashion talents: a brilliant mind and the never sated starvation leading them at searching for unexpected stories to tell through clothes; the astonishment is instead the surprise welcoming us when we’ve got the chance to discover what their tales reveal.
And Vito Michele Nitti has much matter to mesmerize us by: “what I love of my work is that I can tell stories, I love that my collections could be seen in a million different ways, that my story can be hidden and only those really interested in it could go deeper. I love misleading the human mind!” Words that you are requested to imagine being said with the warm voice of a boy coming from Bari that, before arriving in Milan, practiced the classic tailoring, put it into his personal baggage together with the lessons of beauty and elegance received by the women of his family and made them the basis to feed with the vibrant starvation for research about all that fashion embraces: history, art, literature and, first of all, himself.
The DisDUSTer collection fully confirms: “ the man I told about is me, I started from one of my favorite authors, Oscar Wilde, discovering a side of him that no one ever showed”, that is Wilde’s hidden side into the enraged work of “De Profundis” , the same rage due to an external incomprehension towards a personal intimacy that today still swallows us. So, the dandy of Vito’s collection is not the snappy man almost presumptuous, yet the decadent sliding into slovenliness, but that in its turn is perfect tailoring hidden into comfort: the baggy trousers classical yet very comfortable, an oversized coat that actually has a great aplomb, the transparency of a silk turtleneck with the buttons on the back stolen from historical womenswear.
Voilà the throwing act, the dandy that loves the pleasures of life so much that he experiences them in their excess like a rockstar of today, or a pirate of yesterday, having the same outsider essence and very careful appearance. But this is not enough, Vito’s passion takes a step back of a handful of centuries, he reaches a textbook of sixteenth century and he discovers the behaving codes of men, and tells them through fanciful details: could you ever imagine that the astrakan square inlaid into the patchwork vest is actually the stamp wore by those men having their sexuality pointed and disapproved?
A collection that Vito saw walking the catwalk in London too, at the international catwalk of the Graduate Fashion Week: Oscar Wilde’s city, as to close a circle to open a new one that we wish it will be a step towards success.
