“Casting Privati: Genesis”. Richard Gerst fotografa Nick Ayler in esclusiva per lepilloledistefano

Un modo per ricominciare, per ritornare al punto di partenza. Le foto che Richard fece a Nick Ayler per ‘Pin Up Boys’, e che ottennero la copertina della rivista, sono state le prime che il fotografo mi concesse in esclusiva per l’Italia, da quel momento è nato non solo un rapporto di collaborazione, ma anche un’amicizia. Ammetto che trovo molto divertente parlare con Richard, contando che grazie al fuso orario quando lui sta facendo colazione io sto  bevendo il caffè post pranzo! Ma in questi mesi  è stato davvero gratificante per me vedere la crescita professionale che Richard ha intrapreso, che ha toccato momenti a mio avviso esaltanti come il nostro progetto ‘Casting Privati’. Per questo abbiamo deciso di tornare indietro, ma con uno spirito nuovo. E nasce ‘Casting Privati: Genesis’ dove Gerst scatta nuovamente Nick Ayler, ma in maniera diversa e più intima. Anche Nick è cambiato, ora è sulla sua strada per diventare molto più di un modello, tanti ora i suoi fan e tanti i lavori che lo separano dal Nick degli inizi, per questo ho deciso di intervistarlo, consapevole che stiamo chiacchierando con una star in ascesa. Eccovi le splendide foto e la chiacchierata! / A way to start again, to go back at the beginning. The photos that Richard took of Nick Ayler for ‘Pin Up Boys’, and that got the cover of the magazine, were the first that the photographer gave me too publish in this blog as an exclusive for Italy, from that moment was born not only a collaboration, a partnership, but also a friendship. I admit that I find very funny to talk with Richard, considering that due to the time zone when he is eating breakfast, I’m drinking coffee after lunch! But in recent months what has been truly rewarding was to see the professional growth that Richard has done, that has touched really exciting moments for me such as our project ‘Casting Privati’. So we decided to go back there, but with a new spirit. That’s why ‘Private Casting: Genesis’ was born, a new shoot in which Nick Ayler and Richard Gerst have met again, with a photographic project which is different and more intimate. Nick also has changed, now it is on his way to become more than just a model, many, many fans and so many works separate the current nick from the one he was then, so I decided to interview him, knowing well that we are chatting with a star on the rise. Nick, mi puoi raccontare quando hai deciso di diventare un modell e come hai iniziato questa carriera? / Could you tell me when did you decide you wanted to be a model and when did it all begin?
Ho cominciato quando vivevo in South Carolina. Un fotografo mi ha parlato del concorso della Fords legato alla rivista “V Man”. Dopo aver parlato, abbiamo deciso di fare un “shooting” per quel contest. Sono arrivato quarto su 1091 partecipanti. Siccome molti modelli famosi sono riusciti a fare il passo dagli shooting di moda al diventare attori – ed essere un attore è qualcosa che mi ha sempre intrigato, visto che la recitazione è stata, è e sarà sempre una mia vera passione – ho pensato che diventare un modello avrebbe portato a fare dei castings e a creare così delle possibilità di avere una carriera di successo nel mondo della recitazione. / It started when I was living in South Carolina. A photographer had brought Fords “Vman” contest to my attention. After speaking, we decided to do a shoot for the contest.  I took 4th place, out of 1091 people. Since many well known models make the transition from being a model into becoming an actor – and being a working actor had immediately intrigued me since acting was, is and will always be a true passion of mine- my thought was perhaps modeling would lead to castings, which would eventually lead to opportunities for a successful acting career.

Com’è la la vita di un modello? Cosa ti piace e cosa no? / How is the life of a model? Likes and dislikes about this world?
La vita come modello ha i suoi alti e bassi come qualsiasi altra professione, e sono molto riconoscente dei lavori che sono stato in grado di raggiungere fino ad oggi nella mia carriera musicale e cinematografica. In passato ci sono stati alcuni castings che non hanno portato ad essere chiamato per lavori che desideravo veramente tanto fare. Quindi devo ammettere che c’è una cosa che non piace veramente a nessuno: essere rifiutati! Ed è una cosa che ogni modello/attore subisce quasi ogni giorno indipendentemente da quanto “perfetto” lui o lei creda di essere  per quel lavoro. Tuttavia, sono abbastanza fiducioso nel dire che l’abilità di gestire un rifiuto ha più valore nello spettacolo rispetto ad altri ambiti lavorativi. Parlando dei lati positivi di questa industria, in una giornata tipica di ogni  modello o di un attore, uno tende a entrare in contatto con numerose persone durante i castings, gli spostamenti e altri eventi legati a questo settore. Conoscere tutte queste persone durante le mie giornate è una cosa che mi piace tantissimo e come musicista mi permette di accogliere altri punti di vista e conoscere le opinioni di altre persone sulla musica. Questo  non si potrà mai ottenere attraverso un computer, senza un tipo di interazione personale e più umana. / The life of a model has its ups and downs like any other job, and I am very appreciative for the work I have been able to attain to date in my career in film and music.  There have been a few castings in the past that I didn’t receive call backs for, when I was really hoping for the gig.  Therefore, I’d have to say that one thing no one likes is: Rejection. It’s something that every model/actor goes through on nearly a daily basis, regardless of how “perfect” he or she believes they are for the job. However, I’m pretty confident in saying that the skill of handling rejection has more value in the entertainment industry than other lines of work.  On the plus side of the industry, throughout a typical day of any model or actor, he or she tends to come in contact with numerous people from castings, commuting, and/or industry events. Meeting those people throughout the day is something I enjoy very much. As a musician, it allows you to take in other perspectives and intuitive thoughts upon their views on music. That is something one will never be able to get through a computer, without this personal- and more human – interaction.

Il momento più bello vissuto sino ad ora? Quale il ricordo più importante che hai legato al tuo lavoro? / Best moment till now? Which is the most important memory related with your job?
In ogni momento in questa industria si aspira a fare sempre di ogni progetto qualcosa di meglio di quello precedente, così è davvero difficile scegliere qualcosa in particolare. Se dovessi essere però più preciso, direi: ogni volta che la mia famiglia, i miei  amici e i miei fans mi sono stati vicini e mi hanno supportato. / With every moment in this industry one is always striving to make each project better than the last, so it is really hard to pick one particular moment. If I had to be specific,  I would say every moment that my family, friends, and fans have been there for support.
Ci racconti qualcosa del tuo lavoro con Richard. / Tell us something about your work with Richard.
L’opportunità di lavorare con Richard è stata a dir poco sorprendente. Ho avuto il piacere di essere fotografato da lui più volte. Sono sempre stato entusiasta di essere su un set con Richard, dal momento in cui si esprimevano i concetti del lavoro alla realizzazione finale. È un fotografo incredibile, un grande amico e non vedo l’ora di lavorare di nuovo con lui. / Getting the opportunity to work with Richard has been nothing short of phenomenally amazing.  I have had the pleasure of working with Richard quite a few times. Throughout it all,  I have always looked forward to every shoot we have ever done, from the point where it is conceptualized to completed. He is an incredible photographer, a great friend,  and I very much look forward to working with him again.
Non è la prima volta che incrociamo le nostre strade, per cui: ci racconti come è cambiata la tua vita alla prima copertina di “Pin Up Boys” che pubblicai sul blog? / This is not the first time we met so could you tell us how has been your life changed since your first cover of Pin Up Boys?
Da quando abbiamo realizzato quella copertina, mi sono trasferito da New York a Los Angeles e Las Vegas. Questo mi ha permesso di ampliare non solo la mia fan base, ma anche di aumentare il numero di lavori ottenuti. Ora sto lavorando in tutte e tre le città: New York, Los Angeles e Las Vegas.  Che si tratti di fare il dj in un club, fare uno shooting o spendere il mio tempo in studio di  produzione, mi tengo sempre occupato. E quindi potrei dirti che aver ottenuto quella copertina mi ha reso più impegnato, più determinato e  di conseguenza molto più focalizzato sui miei obiettivi. /Since the cover, I have moved from New York to Los Angeles, as well as Las Vegas.  Doing so has allowed me to expand not only my fan base, but also my bookings. I am now working in all three cities: NYC, L.A. & Las Vegas. Whether it’s deejaying a gig at a club, doing a shoot, or spending time in the studio producing, I am always keeping myself busy. Therefore: I would have to say the cover story made me busier, more determined, and consequently much more focused.
Progetti per il futuro? / Plans for the future?
Il mio trasferimento verso il West ha davvero ampliato i miei orizzonti su recitazione e sul mio lavoro di modello. I miei piani per il futuro includono la produzione di musica e anche studiare recitazione, che sia a Los Angeles, Las Vegas o New York. Sono in trattativa per ottenere lavori come deejay per questa estate, ma continuo a lavorare in stretto contatto con le mie agenzie per promuovere la carriera di modello e di attore. Sono  fiducioso che questo anno sarà pieno di grandi emozioni e di opportunità di conoscere nuove persone e continuare  a costruire la mia carriera nel mondo dello spettacolo. / My move out west has really expanded my horizons on acting and modeling. My plans for the future include producing music as well as studying acting, both in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New York. I am in the midst of securing a few more residencies for deejaying this summer, while working closely with my agencies to further my acting & modeling career. I am looking forward to a big, exciting year, as well as meeting new people and continuing to build my work in the industry.
