Fashion, which often springs from the lap of glamour, can also be made of simple, intimate, emotional acts, able to originate from small precious objects – accessories with a high iconographic value. Stefania Bertoni knows it well. With a past experience as goldsmith, she’s used to conceive jewels as symbols of depth and feelings; but she’s also attached to re-use in the field of fashion, which means she’s expert in giving a new value to disused items – that carry a story with them – in order to let them enter a different path. After being twice shortlisted at the prestigious award ‘Who’s on next’ in the categories of jewels and accessories, with a work in which re-use and precious stones melted together, the designer is coming back with a project that brings several moments, children of her path in the field of precious accessories – such as a Diploma in Jewel Design, but also the First Prize at the Jugend Gestaltet International Award of Monaco – together with the idea of fashion recycled, created in many years of collaboration with A.N.G.E.L.O., a big name in vintage, and strengthened in the years of teaching Fashion Design at Isia of Faenza (Ravenna), town where the stylist lives and works.
The accessories proposed in Stefania Bertoni’s collection bring together a contemporary look and the reassuring taste for antique gestures, at the same time projecting in a future where fashion is becoming more and more single-sized. A masterpiece of Bertoni’s creativity is part of the collection: the vintage ties decorated with precious stones. They can be designer or tailored ties, or even from unknown brands: no matter which, the designer makes them precious and desirable, with a creative act that originates form esthetic taste and practical sense, melted together in a successful embrace. The stones, decorating the points of wear and tear or the signs left by time, give a new life to accessories, that become in this way small affordable luxury objects. The act of sewing, of signing an item with thread – where needed – is an action that is both part of our everyday and our memory: the second object proposed by Stefania is a direct child of this idea. As we pin a brooch, we can also pin a fine necklace into textiles. Here comes the needle that brings with itself not a thread, but a necklace – both in gold or silver – that terminates with a knot, suggesting a tailor’s knot. An absolutely new jewel, since it’s not the classic necklace, it’s not a brooch, but it’s both – a decoration we can interpret in a personal way, to which we can hang our dearest pendants – in a simple version – but that becomes even more special in the cases with the precious buttons or the garnets thread. The last accessory arises from a deep observation of the human attitude to embellishment and ornament, that leads us to show personal signs on our bodies and to unveil ourselves to highlight tattoos or sport-shaped muscles. Why not underline the shoulders that clothes leave naked with a unique accessory? The shoulder-necklaces, hold in trap by a chain under the armpit, change the normal perception we have of this type of jewel. The typical verticality of a necklace is modulated according to changing times and changing gestures, in a natural evolution of beauty.
